If Diablo III is anywhere near as good as Diablo II then I might just get it for both PC and 360. I can't wait!

This is excellent news for the console gamers :D
Imo it's a good decision for blizzard as they may integrate the new Battle.net for the console gamers :)

Won't ever happen for XBox.
Microsoft won't allow external networks or cross-platform games. It's all in their policies.

Guess, their best choice for D3 on console would be the Playstation 3 then...

Hurray for D3 for on Wii with Motion controller and touch screen!!!
WHEEEEEEE!!!

D3 with motion controller could be entertaining for about... 5 minutes?

But yeah, when they say console, they almost certainly will exclude XB360 from the picture due to those restrictive policies.

As long as they don't dumb down the PC version, sure why not? Here's hoping they allow cross-platform play :D

I just don't want it to cause any sort of delay with it coming out on pc. I don't really care if it comes out on platforms or not since I don't own any of them but hooray for console owners if it does release on console

Off the top of my head, games from both EA and Ubisoft already use their respective networks on Xbox.

The servers would be separately hosted within XBL's network.
I'm not kidding on this one, MS does not allow any external network activity on XBL.

One-time only exception was made for FFXI, but even MS went ahead and said that it would NEVER happen again.

Well, I hope we can play it on Xbox.

Not saying it won't ever go to XBox.
Just that if it ever does, MP will be restricted to XBL players only. You won't be able to cross-platform play with other systems' players.

And seeing that Blizzard hosts their own servers on Battle.net, MS will require that they host SEPARATE Battle.net server(s) within XBL's network to even allow Multiplayer that way at all.

Assuming Blizzard caves in to all those sorts of rules and policies, sure you will get to play it on Xbox.
However, they could simply decide (like most other developers) to shove em a big fat one on it all...

I don't really know if a game like Diablo will really work well on console. That and RTS games like C&C.

I know there are some like Red Alert that have come out on console, but I don't think they can be as playable without a mouse and keyboard without totally changing the way things work, and maybe dumbing down the game...

How can clicking a button while moving with WASD not be converted to the console? That is and was Diablo, there have been some pretty successfully clicky RPG's on the consoles and they worked quite well.

They should just make a whole new Diablo III inspired spinoff for consoles, rather than trying to make is all work together. But in all honesty, if anyone is likely to pull it off, it would be Blizzard. They don't dick around.

It's not the moving and attacking that's the problem. It's the shortcuts for your spells and abilities. In D2 you could assign shortcut keys to specific spells and then be able to switch quickly. I can't remember how much shortcuts you could put on, but I think it was 20 or more.

It's the same issue with WoW for consoles. Too many needed shortcuts and not enough buttons on a controller.

I've read that the console version for D1 used combinations to get around that problem, but I'm not sure how good it was.

It's not like WoW is a fast action game that you need to have a quick combination of buttons pushed ;-). Diablo II is the same thing 90% of the time you've got 5 seconds before you need to change to a certain spell, it's just PC gamers are spoiled by having a keyboard.

Pretty much what I was thinking, D2 was nice with all the shortcuts for spells / attacks, and then there's clicking on the screen to direct your casting, etc. I will say though that it's been many years since I played D2, so maybe it's just the way I'm remembering the gameplay.

And yes, there are a lot of RPG's done well on consoles, I was just trying to picture Diablo, and not quite seeing how it would work as well as having a keyboard and mouse.

Although, they might surprise me and make it fantastic.

Anyway, I still stand by the statement with regards RTS games

It wasn't until I started playing WoW that I realised how long a 5 second cooldown is when you really need it.
