Some of you will remember this golden oldie, others won't :)

I recently read some posts where the poster claimed that the original developers, Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III, were planning to do a remake of this timeless classic, and I was wondering if anyone else knows anything about this.

I know that there is an free version available from sourceforge.net under the name The Ur-Quan Masters, and I know that it has some pretty nifty speech packs and groovy tunes, but, it still looks ... well, ancient.

I actually played it when it was Star Control II back on my old 486. Played Urquan Masters recently, but didn't get far. It was just too dated to get back into.

Aslong as they don't remake it into a FPS :) How would they do the 1 on 1 ship battles and the lander shuttle "missions"? Those game mechanics are too dated too.

Yeah Hand, same here mate

It rocked my socks back then, but sadly, when I tried the UQM's a while ago it had the same effect on me which it had on you. Couldn't get into it.

Would love to see them do a remake on it though. Pity Fred and Paul didn't do SC 3, had high hopes for it

One of my favourite things about the original that hasn't made it in to the Ur-Quan Masters as yet was the awesome intro, especially the music. I still remember the epic Melee battles we used to have with both players playing on the same keyboard. :D

Heya Scepter

When was the last time you downloaded the binaries for UQM? I remember the first one I downloaded didn't have the intro, the 2nd time I downloaded it the intro was there, along with the dum-dum-da Vela music :P
