Hi everyone!

We love giving back to our community and we have what we hope will prove to be a fun way to do just that.

We will be giving away a PS3 160Gb in the coming weeks, but entering the competition is going to be different from the norm.

To enter this competition, we are asking the MyGaming forum members to simply create forum topics about any interesting gaming related fact, a cool how-to guide, tips and tricks, or anything else which gaming-minded people will be interested in.

Your post can be as elaborate or simple as you wish.

For this purpose we have created a new forum where all such posts must go - that forum is here (http://mygaming.co.za/forum/forumdisplay.php/86-Share-your-interesting-gaming-info-win-a-PS3-160GB-%28temp-forum%29).

How it works

The competition will close on Sunday 1 April 2012, at which point the forum will be locked.

The MyGaming staff will narrow down the list of entries to a reasonable number of the 10 best contributions.

The MyGaming community will vote on a poll to decide who contributed the most interesting information. That person will be the grand prize winner.

The winner will be announced on Friday, 17 April at 12PM.

Rules

MyGaming members may start as many threads as they like. Each will be eligible for consideration in the final voting list.

There will be 10 individual names on the voting poll. For each member that contributed more than one thread, those will be listed in the voting poll thread topic so that others can gauge just how impressed they are (or aren't) when it comes time to vote.

Discussion of each topic is welcome and encouraged. Not only will it be fun, but it will help us narrow down the winners.

Good luck and have fun!

Any questions regarding the competition are welcome in this thread.

UPDATE: Due to the large number of submissions, and my forgetting about the long weekend and public holidays, I have extended the winner announce date to 17 April. This will give everyone a fair chance to vote.

I should hopefully be able to start the voting poll over the coming long-weekend. Sorry to keep you hanging, but I want to do things properly :)

Are cut and pastes from other websites with no input by the cut and paster frowned upon or allowed? Because there is already a straight cut and paste from MyBroadband which is the exact same comp entry .........

James what happens to the threads once the comp is over? Some of them could end up being quite informative.

Well I created my entry. Its more of a column rather then compilation of links on tips and tricks of say how to pick your nose effectively during an intense gaming section bla bla bla.

As long as the content is mostly the work of the contributor, and not just a straight copy and paste from another website, then it's okay :)

When the competition is done I will go through the posts and move them to the relevant section of the MyGaming forum.

If this proves successful and the members enjoy it, we will do more such things in future :)

I think this is a good competition format. I've seen alot of kak so far though and alot of one hit wonders but its generating loads of traffic for the site.

Judging from Mybb response to competition, a lot of good ones didnt get in top 10, instead the mediocre ones did so hope its different with this one.

Want to see the helpful ones good enough to be stickies going through and not info on outdated stuff not being used anymore.

Wow that forums is like the Wild West, or maybe a scene from Resident Evil where you're walking through an abandoned hospital and you keep hearing strange noises.

Sjoe; I've been super busy this week but I haven't forgotten. Please forgive me while I try wrap it up.

When I launched the competition I forgot about the long weekend bang in the middle of it. I think that to be fair, we should start the voting round on Tuesday so that everyone is back from holiday and can have their vote counted.

What do you guys think?

James

Longer voting round will be the same thing then :) I reckon I'll extend the dates. I'll make an announcement soon.

interest from the potential voters will have waned, if not already ....... gamers are not people who will go back to something to re-get a feel for it.

James does one/three post wonders votes also count?

Mephisto_Helix
12-04-2012, 08:54 AM
Looks like it does count, judging by the one post wonders voting for 2 people in the comp ......

James
12-04-2012, 10:01 AM
No way to exclude them from voting really.

Mephisto_Helix
12-04-2012, 10:13 AM
So it does unfortunately come down to who whores the votes more then .......... so all these one hit wonders, who may even be clones, can vote and make it a totally non community thing. Why did we bother then?

James
12-04-2012, 12:33 PM
I understand your concerns. As for motivation for bothering to participate, I can't answer that. We have to strike a balance between growing the community and rewarding long-standing members. I think we do a good job of that. Hopefully the community will see that too, and will vote accordingly. We have been promoting the voting period via the social channels so that hopefully all members have a chance to come in and vote.

If I see any particularly dubious behaviour, I will look into it.

MH doesn't understand the meaning of dubious, he only knows of one post wonders and then disappear members. :p

They each have 21 votes, from what, 3 days .... over all the other articles from long standing members and you think there is nothing dubious going on? Wow, none so blind.

Trust me; I'm on top of it. Let it play out first.

I'm a bit disappointed that more MyGaming forumites haven't voted for their pals on the forum.

Would be interesting to know how many of the actual active users voted VS those who just register to win.
