So back in High School I had friends who where big DND players. I never got into it as I had a hard time sitting around a table imagining all this. Now DDO or DND Online or Dungeons & Dragons Online, is there and we no longer need to imagine all of it. Its Free2Play with a 2gb client download. It has no PVP as the creators, Turbine, felt DND's main focus was on co-op or team play. This sounds pretty interesting if you take into account that almost all other MMO's have atleast some focus on PVP. I have a feeling this could be a fun casual MMO. Where you can some friends can go off and raid or just do quests and stuff. Im looking forward to trying it and was wondering if anybody else here had played it.

Pretty nice so far - amazing that it is f2p now. Joined someone and did some of the quests in hard mode. The person gave me some nice equipment when we got to Stormreach. So I am impressed with the Starter Area so far. Will have to play further to let you know what I think of the main game...

I was amazed at how polished the game looks for an mmo, I downloaded the High Res version and set it all to full at 1920 x 1200 and all I have to say is NICE! So used to seeing Graphics from mmo's like wow and runes of magic!

As i understand it, when u reach rank 5 and have to go to a trainer to level up u just go to a trainer of the class u want to multiclass in and ask to be trained in that field.

Went ok me and Degaron Did 2 quests but he got DC's or something then i had weird errors popping up. So it was ok i guess. The part where we did quest was fun. Just need to sort out the voice com so its easier to advice, kinda hard typing when ur being attacked.

DDO has a built in Voice option, thing is i had my head phones on and mike setup, even tested it but Deragon couldn't hear me. Since im capped at work i can even do research.

Nope, started the downloader a couple of times on my capped account - no account trickery here :D
The downloader seems to have a P2P component that might be picking up someone in RSA. :)

Im only level 2 Rank 8 and Degaron is level 2 Rank 7. So its not too much you have to catch up on. We should find out if Phoenix is gonna be on and you two can team up and reach stormreach then we can do proper party from there on out.

Sadly, I quit this game because there were too many important items that were in pay to play dungeons. There's also something unfulfilling about having only one island to travel to. Granted, this was a few months ago and they might have come out with new material, but last I checked, all the quests were in the same areas over and over again. Mages were also screwed due to lack of MP regen and the rarity of MP pots :(

I see that they have reincarnation (for a price) now. Mabinogi did the rebirth system the best out of all free MMO's though ;P

I'm pretty sure I've read up on favor farming back in the day. You'd need to use up all your character slots in order to farm enough favor to unlock a majority of the pay to play dungeons. In other news, farming and grinding is not my idea of fun. The reward just isn't worth it.

DDO is highly recommended. There is a MASSIVE amount of content available for free. If you still aren't sure after getting a few levels just buy 5-10$ worth of TP to unlock 4 char slots and full auction house privileges. It is a tiny investment considering the hours you could spend on the game, and that TP increase will let you buy one of the content modules.

Well there isnt a set amount you have to pay for modules in general, rather the more content there is in a module, the more you'll pay for it.

EDIT: I spoke too soon. Experiencing a weeeeird problem. It's getting stuck on like 3.26-3.29MB. It goes up to 3.28MB then down to 3.26MB and back up and back down again and never gets past that point, even though my bitrate fluctuates :confused: I've tried completely deactivating my firewall but alas it doesn't help. Am I missing something here?
Oh well...at least I can download Eve in the meantime.

I'm strugling with this download as well today. Had to format my C: drive, but I've still got the content on D:. Now the updater won't pick up those files, nor start the DL. Sigh.

Where does one get the Turbine downloader? This one is called Pando Media Booster. I emailed their support but nothing yet.
It's officially the strangest downloader I've come across, though. Not only is it getting stuck, but when you start downloading it immediately creates 6 temporary files. 5 of them are like 666 665KB in size each :confused:

Yeah, that's where I got it from. You'll notice it's the Pando Media Booster download.

how is the free to play on the US servers? I played on europe for 2 years and then on and off for a while. What a great game, too bad the stuffed it up with the loot and unbalancing of everything.

Argh, waiting for support to get back to me with a possible fix for my issue.
I decided to try Allods Online while I waited, as people have been raving about its polish for a F2P, but what do you know? It, too, uses the freaking Pando Media Booster! :rolleyes: So that's also getting stuck.
But last night I finally decided to give the Dark Age of Camelot trial a go, as I've had my eye on the game for quite some time now. Happily downloading away. Stoked! Really want to give D&D a try, too, though.
