Berlin - German retailer Kaufhof will no longer sell violent video games and films, after a teenager - who was an avid gamer - shot dead 15 people before killing himself last week, the firm said on Wednesday.

"On the basis of what happened in Winnenden, we have decided to take all the games and films deemed unsuitable for below 18 year olds out of our product range," Kaufhof spokesperson Sonja Kittel told AFP.

"The products which we now have in the stores will be sold until the end of March but by April the sales will be stopped all together," Kittel said.

Thomas Burkhart, director of Kaufhof's media department, said within an hour of the decision, most of the games had been removed from the shelves.

So this guy is a moron and no Kaufhof no longer sells violent games. Fantastic news for the other retailers.

yes apparently it was cs first, but now they changed it to farcry2...

...books, scrolls, tapes, movies, cave paintings, music, comics; you name it- have had the blame since the beginning of time.

It's getting to be insane. When retailers take the inevitable knock to their sales just to placate some people who are in a tizzy it goes over the edge.

"who was an avid gamer"

You know ... news papers who do not have proper stories and have to resort to thinking up garbage like this to get on the "games are bad" bandwagon _REALLY_ grind my tits.

Using the exact same logic, the following statement rings true as well:

Bread is bad for you.

Prove it? Sure!

- 100% of violent criminals eat bread.
- 10 000/10 000 drunk drivers were reported to have consumed bread within 3 days of their accidents
- A census showed that every time a student fails a test, it occurred within 24 hours of eating bread.
- 100% of people developing lung cancer consumed bread throughout at least 50% of their childhood.
- 100% of suicides recorded in 2007 were by people who ate bread on a daily basis.
- 100% of divorced families were in possession of bread in their houses.
- Every recorded commercial airline crash had trace amounts of bread on board.

There you have it folks.

I mean really now ... sure the kid PLAYED games... even a lot of it. But if they want to point a finger at gaming, I want them to perform a study where a perfectly sane kid goes mental after playing games & watching violent movies for 5 years. Until then...

STFU!

The thing is this:

If they blame the parents - they face a serious reality of getting their asses sued for defamation of character. However (comma) if they blame tv-games, they are safe AND it draws more readers.

Someone remind me to kick the next journalist I see in the panty

This is always a big load of crap. No one can blame a game for some idiot kid killing someone. The game might have had some influence, but no more influence than the movies he watches, the things he reads, etc.

And even still, the cause of this is not media in any case. Dig a little deeper and the kid will probably be on all sorts of medication and drugs to "help" him.

Yeah..look those are violent games and im sure those games would have some effect on younger children and teens(hence the 18+).
So it is the parents that should be held accountable because they purchase the games for the kids..Stop holding the damn gaming companies accountable for bad parenting!!

I dont get it....... the media and the people repsonsible for the crimes committed are always the first to blame violent games.... I think its F-ed up as you never see the Media actually having a go at the game and seeing if the person actually tried in anyway to re inact that specific game he was playin prior to the incident... These okes can jump to the quickest conclusions ever because they are too F-ing lazy to actually solve a proper crime instead they go straight to his PC and say "oh look hes been playin Man Hunt, and he extremely twisted"...... What about the majority of us playing these violent games you dont see us going around and killing of innocent people because we dont have a reason to and shouldn't have a reason.... the oke that shot those 15 people had clearly been planning something like that for a long time and it just pisses me off that the Media are so quick to turn our world around into something out of Equilibrium.... and to have everyone thinking on one straight line...

If i had the right mind I would get every single gamer whether ur female/male goth, emo jock nerd.... whatever and I would put them in front of the media and k@k them out as they have no right to generalise and blame us gamers and the games we play for the twisted people we have living amoungst us in our societies today.... This is why I F-ing hate the Media bcoz its all full of Lies and BS I dont read news papers or watch the news anymore bcoz they are so quick to point fingers without actually looking at what originally caused the problem...

They should have looked at his background to start off with and the people he hung around, he could have been abused or sexually assaulted, games dont do that to you people do that to you....

Sorry its just my oppinion and it pisses me off how the media blames us gamers most of the time for these shootings that have been going on lately... and trying to twist whats really happenin within their own societies.

Father of psychotic teen, Billy*, speaks out: "I don't understand how this could have happened. He went through a bad period, a few months back, when word got out at school that I sexually molested him repeatedly when he was a child. He was constantly being teased and mocked by the other students and would come home in tears. I would beat him and verbally abuse him like any father would a son who was acting like a baby. I would beat his mother in front of him to show him how his behaviour was damaging this family in the hopes that it would set him right. This wasn't helping at all so I bought him a game called Counterstrike and gave him my dad's rifle from the World War 2 and took him regularly to the firing range to train him to be a man. I showed him that shooting things was the best way to overcome your fears and to clear your mind. He seemed to be enjoying our time together. If I had known that, that d@mn game would have turned my little Tim into such a monster, I would never have allowed him to play it. I don't understand how they could allow such filth to be sold!? We never saw this coming."*

I agree with you syco, its not the violent video games fault. Its all the people that type like bcoz and tx and "u r going 2 luv this" that will cause us all to go postal and break out the automatic weapons.

While I am only joking, I'm only really half joking. I personally really can't handle that kind of ling /typing whatever you call it. It's one of my personal peeves. But its also just as likely to cause me to co postal as paying GTA or counterstrike or whatever violent game of choice. The actual chances of either of those causing me to go postal.... 0 zero, zip, nil, nada.

sycogrim
19-03-2009, 12:23 PM
thats why if you think about it if I for example had to go to those Media companies i could take them for all they are worth seeing as they are not only generalising but they are pretty much saying that all gamers are syco's and stuff and should be locked up... they are also saying.... lets use me for an example: they are saying im crazy and wanna kill people i see and then kill myself.... thats how those stories portray themselves and if you think about it anyone if not everyone can sue as it is individual insults and generalisation/false accusations thrown towards us as gamers...

QFT.

Plus games actually helps you to let out some stress. Then you can take out your stress on people, aliens, zombies and even cars, that aren't real. Because any NORMAL person would know that doing the stuff they see in games is not acceptable in the real world, even if you are a little kid.
