Ok, so I'm going to JHB next week Wednesday and I want to get myself a gaming system. I already have speakers, a 22" monitor and Vista Ultimate 64bit. I want a rig, max budget is R16.5k but you don't have to feel obligated to put usage to it all.

Thanks in advance

No way the Core i7 Board and Core i& Processor with a GTX 295 gna cost about without ram about R13000.

Core i7, not worth buying yet either settle for a lower spec Intel or AMD.

Hi there!

I am looking to get a new pc, no need for peripherals, just a towercase overhaul. Max. buget R10 000. I've been looking on www.take2.co.za, where they have really good prices, but I don't know what to get! I don't need anything outstanding, just a sort of top of the middle range...what woulf you guys reccommend?

I was thinking:

Core2duo prcessor, 2.5 Ghz
3gigs RAM
Nvidia 9800 512Mb
250 gig HDD (SATA 2)
Not too sure on which mother board I should get, but one that supports PCI express 2.0 would be nice!
Not all that fussy on cases.

Any one wanna correct me, see if they can find a better option?

Sorry Joker, didn't see it. I'm on my phone. Only issue I have with AM2+ is that its pretty much a dead end.

The Joker

Its not a dead end mate, That pc is built so that its fully upgradable, The mobo supports AM3 cpu's, all the parts mach, ati and amd only, Mobo supports crossfire, power supply supports crossfire ect.
I'll do an intel 1 for you tonight.

@weakest link: The power supply I chose is a monster, it is needed for when he wants to run 2x 4870's in crossfire and for the cpu, under full load that cpu alone draws around 280watt. Im a big fan of the corsair power supply's but the 700watt corsair costs pretty much the same and I know this thermaltaake is awsome becaue i built a rig for a friend and that psu runs like a dream!!

Lian Li cases are insanely expenssive!!
The cheapest 1 retails for a round R1700 and it looks like a piece of shit!!

Not a problem mate, just trust me..lol!!
I know what im talking about, anyway i'll do an intel rig for you and then you can decide.
The intel rig won't be as good a the amd 1 purley because intel parts ar pricey but i'll do my best!!

the lain li casings are cheaper here ... www.landmarkpc.co.za ... i dont know about you but i think the CM ammo looks abit crap ... would rather go for a lain li casing since its features is way more and there is so much you can do with the casing ...

damn i didnt relise the psu prices shot up so sky high ... i remember buying my zalman 750w psu for around R1500 ...

25-03-2009, 05:27 PM
Also whats the difference between a normal 4870 and a 4870 toxic?

The Joker
25-03-2009, 05:34 PM
As far as I know the toxic edition features a vapor X cooler.
A pic to show you how it looks:
