No contest. Blizzard has a winner here, to bad it's so bloody addictive. It's like electronic Heroin

I think one of the best places to see which games are currently being played a lot is at http://www.xfire.com/
I've never actually tried WoW. For some reason MMORPGs just don't really hold my interest. I played Guild Wars for a while and I looked at videos of WoW but in the end I prefer single player games or at best games like Left 4 Dead.

I felt very much the same - I've played BF2 the longest (i.e. date I started and played regularly til now), but I've clocked up the most hours in WoW by a landslide. Something silly like 45 days of gaming. It's one TERRIBLE time sink though.

I have always played 1 player PC games. Then I joined MyBB and thought I'll give GW's a bash. Played it for a while then thought I'll try WoW. That was 2 years ago and tried as I may I can not stop playing WoW. I have bought one game in that time and had issues with it then moved back to WoW :o

That is 45days in combined hours for the people who don't know. It's 45 days of actual time played
Mine is prob. close to 100 or more days

After reading the replies I sat and ran some numbers:
I was off work for around 26 days.
I played WoW from around 8am to 4pm (minus housework and handyman stuff). So let us say 5 hours during the day.
I played from 8pm until midnight most week nights. That is another 4hours. I did not play much on the weekends.
So 9 hours a day x 5 days / week = 45hours per week. I clocked around 170 - 180 hours last month!!
I am so glad to be back at work. Now onto that website to see how I can get that 310% flapper! :p

No surprise about WoW. Big winner, Blizzard know what they are doing. I have certainly contributed a lot of time to that title. :P

Check the minutes per week played, though. Even though CS and CS:S are at 9 and 10, CS players still play more per week overall than Sims players do, even though there are more Sims players on average.
CS:S actually seems to be played more minutes per week than COD4 is.
It's interesting for me to see that there are no strategy games on Nielssen's list... Not even StarCraft or WarCraft III. For some reason I always thought that StarCraft would be more popular/played than Diablo 2.
A quick comment on the article itself: I think it's important to provide sources for news articles, i.e. link to the document containing this information on Nielsen's site.
I think one of the best places to see which games are currently being played a lot is at http://www.xfire.com/
Xfire's stats correlate well on the top 2 games but I think too few Halo and Sims players are Xfire subscribers.
I've never actually tried WoW. For some reason MMORPGs just don't really hold my interest. I played Guild Wars for a while and I looked at videos of WoW but in the end I prefer single player games or at best games like Left 4 Dead.
I gave the 10-day WoW trial a whirl and while it was fun, I could put the game down at the end of the 10 days and not be remotely tempted to subscribe. It's not just the concept of subscribing to a game that puts me off, but the sheer amount of time it takes to achieve anything.
And fishing and cooking... Seriously?!
Guild Wars I enjoyed but the pace of the game can be a bit slow sometimes. MMOs lose out on the action-packed combat ARPGs like Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege and Titan Quest can offer due to infrastructure limitations. Dungeon Runners tries to be an online ARPG, but for a South African with a 400+ms ping it's torture to play.
Anyway, that was wildly off-topic...

I dont play pc games much anymore, but i think the ones i played the most on that list was cs, sims and diablo 2, but the pc game i spent most of my time on was probably the original dungeon siege, in multiplayer of course.
