As with the All Rugby Thread, this one is for cricket.

First T20 match tomorrow against the Aussies. I seriously hope we can win these 2 T20's.
Especially after losing both in Australia.

The T20 World Cup is around the corner in June.

I reckon we got a better chance here. We seem to fail in 5 days, don't know why. But looking forward to tomorrows match.

Well, it's almost start time. 6pm.

Am going to watch Gibbs, he is back after his stint in rehab. Hopefully Amla and Vaughn will make a score.

EDIT: SA to field first, they won the toss.... hhmm wonder if it was the right choice.

Yep, quite a thrilling game in the end.
Gibbs played well.
Albie Morkel once again showed his class. Even Boucher pitched in for a change.

I wonder how long they are going to persevere with that Vaughn van Jaarsveld, he failed AGAIN tonight. That's 3 innings, I don't think he even made a total of 10 out of that 3, hell I doubt he even made 3. Terrible.

Second T20 match is almost going to start.. GOGOGO SA.

Ponting won toss and sent SA in to bat.
SA made some changes, they dropped Vaughn van Jaarsveld (finally) and Justin Ontong and Roelof van der Merwe is also playing.

Teams

South Africa - Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Justin Ontong, Mark Boucher (wk), Albie Morkel, Roelof van der Merwe, Johan Botha (capt), Robin Peterson, Johann Louw, Yusuf Abdulla.

Australia - David Warner, Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting (capt), David Hussey, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin (wk), James Hopes, Ben Laughlin, Cameron White, Shane Harwood, Nathan Bracken.

EDIT: SA WON, nice game boys. The new dudes didn't do badly at all, especially Roelof, man he moered that ball and then took wickets too.

Game was excellent yesterday. Went to the game and atmosphere was great. Looking forward to the IPL games at super sport park.:)

Roeloff showed why he should be in the side and not that pancy van jaarsveld. Guy looks like he might faint each time he steps in to the international arena.

Anybody got any idea when and where we will be getting IPL tickets??

lilDeath
01-04-2009, 01:07 AM
I heard about that tonight. The IPL is going to rock!
They were doing a piece on the Cape Cobras and Newlands and the opening ceremony being there, etc.

Quite a few games are going to be played at Newlands.

They are still busy with the venues and negotiations, so the tickets should come shortly when all this is done. In the next week or 2.

The schedule is officially announced. Its just the tickets not being available for purchase.

Super sport park got 12 games, only Kingsmead with their 16 has more than us.

Cricket yesterday was great. Hopefully Smith can win the toss on Thursday.

BTW. If anyone wants IPL tickets for 30 April at ss park I suggest buying now. I got mine just a hour ago and there is virtually no seats in the grandstand left. These tickets are selling at an incredible rate.

Is it just me that thinks Smith is the most useless cricketer in SA's history?

Sorry I just cant work out why he is captain, let alone in the team. 90% of the time he goes out for under 10, he can't bat, he can barely field. What the flying fruit is he still doing there?

279/5 with 1 over to go, they stepped on the gas a bit...

...now lets just hope our bowlers come to the party

He averages over 40 and has a strike rate of 82 in odi's that's up there with the tendulkar's and pontings. Averages over 50 in test. The guy is our best batsmen. You don't follow him closely enough.

WOW.... Cannot believe how slack the people have been. Shame guys, shame on YOU!

Deccan Chargers won the IPL btw.

2 mil in prize money, not bad.

And to boot, DC and RCB are auto-quali for the T20 World champs in October, where the prize money is $6mil!

Time to revive the cricket thread. Seems mickey has resigned due to a falling out with smith. Barnes has been sacked and the selectors are rumored to be in trouble as well. Only one safe is smith and jeremy snape. Corrie van zyl will be the caretaker for the tour to india. Along with van zyl other candidates for the full time job are kepler wessels and snape. Expect a few aussies to throw their names into the mix as well, the short list last time had 3 aussies on there.

Pretty bad timing just days before we leave for india.

Mickey Arthur has resigned as South Africa coach following a breakdown in his relationship with captain Graeme Smith. Former South African fast bowler Corrie van Zyl has been appointed caretaker coach and will be in charge of the team for the two-Test and three-ODI tour of India next month.

"The timing is very unfortunate with an exciting two-Test tour of India coming up but the international cricket calendar these days means that there is never a good time," Arthur told Reuters. "But all good things must come to an end and now is the time for someone else to take over."

Officials in Cricket South Africa were unavailable for comment but a board release said Arthur and its CEO, Gerald Majola, would address the press on Wednesday morning. "We're not commenting on the issue until tomorrow," Michael Owen-Smith, a spokesman for CSA, said. "We're not saying anything until Mickey Arthur has had his say."

A report in the Witness said the relationship between Arthur and Smith had "deteriorated irreparably", and reached a flashpoint during the recent home series against England. It also said Vincent Barnes, South Africa's bowling coach, has been sacked.

Kepler Wessels, a former South Africa captain, was not surprised by the development. "There has been some speculation in the last couple of weeks, so it is not a total surprise," he told iafrica.com. "I still think it is sad, he did a good job for South Africa."

Arthur reportedly had talks with Majola in Johannesburg following the completion of the home series against England. Majola had said the meeting was not in response to the 1-1 series result and that it had been planned in December.

"The Proteas are our greatest asset and the meeting will discuss ways in which they can get even better," Majola had said. "This is our last opportunity to meet with the management of the team - including coach Mickey Arthur and captain Graeme Smith - before they go to India and then on to the West Indies for the World Twenty20 and the tour of the islands. The next time we can have a meeting like this is in June.

"Our financial year ends in April and we need to know what the Proteas need to improve. Maybe they need a specialist coach of some kind, or more medical staff - but we have to include that in our budget for the next financial year."

During Arthur's tenure, which began when he succeeded Ray Jennings in 2005, South Africa won their first series in England in over 40 years and achieved their maiden series victory in Australia in 2008-09. "I am very proud of what the Proteas have achieved while I was coach, especially being ranked number one in both forms of the game in the last 12 months and winning series in England and Australia," he said.

Arthur's resignation came four days before South Africa leave for India. Van Zyl, his temporary replacement, was South Africa's assistant coach in the past and was appointed coach of CSA's high-performance centre in Pretoria in 2009.

Indeed they were, what a performance. Too bad the Indians could not put out their strongest team, but injuries or not, a win is win on paper.

We need to win the series by one game to become the world number 1 test team IIRC
