While it isn't a better game than its predecessors, it manages to stand as both a representative of the series for this generation and an engaging, entertaining and extremely playable game on its own.
so what do you guys have to say about it?
i like the way it's a "free" world in the game..
just by watching the vids.

Since we're on the Fallout 3 topic I've got a question
When you complete the new DLC and then the main quest...does the game allow you to continue afterward (since atm it does not).
O and aae55555....the game rocks. You can play it RPG style (V.A.T.S) or FPS or third person style. The atmosphere is fantastic and the exploring is just plain legen....dary (fallout armor suit up!)

Fallout 3 is a very open minded and odd game. Heavy RPG elements + FPS action + TPS options. You can do main mission or do side quests or go exploring or just pimp out your home or destroy random towns or do them all..seriously, it's one of those games where you can do and become what ever you want to do and be.
Just run about doing things until you find something that really appeals to you and just go for it.

I'm in two minds about getting this. There is a lot that makes think it will quite fun, but the comments like "if you like Oblivion you enjoy this" put me off. I never really enjoyed Oblivion that much. Never finished it. I am starting it again now to see if there is something I missed that will make me enjoy it, but in frankly just found it slow and repetitive the last time I played it.
I probably would have got it by now, but I can't seem to find anyone who has it in stock in Dbn.

I guess the reason why people compare the game to Oblivion is due to the fact that it uses the same type of movement and character style. In terms of leveling up, exploring, killing, looting and mission, it's a totally different ballgame. I like the whole Oblivion medieval setting but in a way I still prefer Fallout 3 over it. FO3 framerate on the Xbox 360 is also much improved over the Oblivion version.

what darkwater said :)
oblivion has swords and shields, fallout has guns and grenades! so much more fun shooting guys in the head in glorious slow motion (thank you V.A.T.S) and seeing the head scattering in different directions. oblivion was good, but Fallout 3 (for me at least) was a MAJOR improvement
and 3 hours in this game is nothing. it happens quite often that you play this game and you just "lose" time. sucked in completely. this game will never be sold/traded :D a gem!

I'm experementing with some gameplay/ balance mods. But I dunno, The game just got boring after also about 55-60 hours gameplay. Finished the main quest and about 80% of the side quests, including operation anchorage DLC
I'll wait about a couple of months or so when there are decent mods like the OOO mod for oblivion, that huge 1.3 GIG gameplay changing mod, till something like that comes out before I seriously play Fallout 3 again. It just got boring to me 100000 times faster than games like Oblivion or even Fallout 2 did.
I know it's a post apocalyptic nuclear "fallout" world and all, but the world could have felt a bit more "alive" if you know what I mean.
Where IN Oblivion, re exploring the same area twice you had a very good chance of finding really hidden stuff or locations, with fallout even the most novice of player will find every location on the map with a smile. The replay value is not that great. Maybe the other 2 expansions planned for next month, and the one thereafter will be better than Operation anchorage and breathe some new life into this.
Still an awesome game though

So I finally finished this yesterday. Got two slightly diferent endings. Only because I too to long to twig onto the code at the end.
Was quite disappointed that once you finish the main story line, that's it game over.
So I have started again, this time as an evil nasty S.O.B. Don't know if I will go the whole way through though.

Has anyone tried playing it as a pure mellee / unarmed character?
I'm thinking of making my evil dude a badass ninja style chap. I think I'd be able to handle most enemies that way; the only thing that really worries me is those deathclaws.

there is a small mod that changes it so that you can continue after finishing the quest.

The pc version is difficult to get hold of lately. Last time I checked most online stores are sold out.
