Dota, Dota 2, Heroes of Neworth or League of Legends?

S2 just announced a change in their f2p model. So far the plan is to have 30 core heroes available always, making all gamemodes available to everyone as a result. They also gonna make it possible to upgrade to legacy. They taking additional community feedback though so there might be a few changes.

In other words they want to improve upon an old outdated f2p model. They have the balls to do so.
The main difference between S2 and Riot/Valve is they aren't afraid to take risks and try something new.

I still don't quite get it, so will there still be a once off cost of buying the game? No monthly cost will be great. But I don't like the idea of continually having to buy new stuff a little bit at a time.
