Hi guys I am new in this forum, actually I'm not south african, I am an Algerian who lives in Jo'bur (work), I have an Afrihost 4Mb uncapped , Belkin router and PS3.
My problem is when I play on MW3/PS3 I always have 2 bars (yellow), I made some researches on internet but didn't find any good answer for my problem, I was thinking it's maybe a problem related to ports but I am not sure, I tried yesterday but had difficulties to configure my router.

Can someone tell me if you guys have actually 4 bars when playing COD online on PS3 with european / american ....

    Note:
I hope it's the right topic to ask this question if not I am sorry, I know that's it's annoying to have questions in the wrong topic, but I really want to understand where is the problem, many thanks

    HI.

that is correct. IF you play any overseas games you will have a 200+ ping that will be yellow bars or 3 green bars at best. you loose the 3rd bar at roughly 120PIng.

So that is 100% in line with what you are experiencing

IF there is hosted local servers . Then you shouldn't have a problem.

I don't play competitively on my Ps3 so your best bet would be to maybe check the local console forums

I cant remember the url atm. Ill try and find it.

Locally hosted serves run at an average of 15 - 20ms if you connecting to UK the best you would get is 180ms to 200ms in my experience. But like Cranky said, check out the local Ps3 forums we have a very active community and I am sure they will help you out.

There are hundreds of South Africans playing MW3 on PS3 (including myself). Check the MW3 Player List thread at SAGamer and some people to your friends list. Join the games they're playing and you will get 3/4 bars.

You'll get 2/1 bar when playing in European and American lobbies so stick to local games.

Battlefield 3 has dedicated servers and can be accessed via the server browser. Although dedicated servers have many more benefits over P2P hosting (like MW3) you don't have to be playing with lag. Look for Team Tactical games and you will almost always find a local lobby.

MW3 is all p2p, meaning some guy (most probably with the fastest line) at his house becomes the host of that game. So you can play MW3 here with a pretty good ping sometimes. If you jump into an international lobby you will lag like a mofo!

BF3 is all server based, even for consoles. However, there are NO local servers for consoles, only local PC servers. This means you will always play with roughly 200ms+ ping...its not jumpy lag which is nice, but that high ping does make a big difference.

Ya, the best servers for console BF3 are European servers. I don't even attempt the American ones. I get 4 bars on a lot of the EU servers, and although I think we are at a disadvantage because of the pings, it's plenty playable. For games that do matchmaking based on pings, like GOW or MW2, I generally can't even get into a game.

There are really no local servers for consoles? Not even for PS3? Can someone confirm this? Don't understand why there is such a big following on SAGamer then. So all the local PS3 players play in EU lobbies? I find that hard to believe :/

Definitely no local BF3 console servers. MWEB had a petition to EA and/or Dice a while back to let them host some, but they never got them.
