Chris, respect for treading these very dangerous grounds. It takes someone with guts to write an article of sexism aimed at females in the gaming industry/scene, especially if that person isn't female himself.
What angers me the most is that many male gamers will blatantly argue that there isn't a sexism issue in the industry, even though Soul Caliber 4's advertising campaign and that new Tera MMO's female characters beg to differ.

Just for tonight, I wish I had been born female.
A quick Google took me to girlgamer.com, where by some fluke, I spotted the profile of someone with same neurological condition as I have. Would it be too creepy if I were to contact her?

Back in the late '90s I used to play Everquest with a girl I met in game (actually quite a few girls but they came and went as time moved on). We became penpals and although we don't game together anymore, I still chat to her regularly (and I've never met her IRL). It must be said that I have never hit on her or vice versa even though we chat about everything under the sun.
I do remember the one woman I used to group with, she was a swinger and she'd tell me about her escapades while we were camping or doing a raid. Most interesting times back then.
Take everything I say with a pinch of salt. Infact, goto your nearest beach and snort some seawater.
Oh lord... I met someone like that years ago as well. She seemed to enjoy talking to us (my partner and I) about her experiences ranging from threesomes to a cheating boyfriend coming home one day with his face smelling of "fish" after kissing her.
Internet has some iiiiiinteresting people out there and, in my experience, women can be just as bad as men![]()
ThanksI didn't want to come off like some kind of white knight, but it just seems people are really dismissive of the issue. Take a look at the comments section in Tarryn's old column on DNF - "Bitch-slapped in the face" and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. I have to say Chris, hats off for attempting this. As one of the few female gamers (who doesnt hide the fact), I have to say one of the main reasons for joining Mygaming was the people on here. I have been on a fair few forums where once it gets out that your female, their attitudes change.
But I also have to admit, I am maybe one of a handful of women, who prefer to play with the guys, but then again I really don't know that many female gamers. I might not be a hard core BF3 player, but I do game for the fun of it. Making friends along the way is always a bonus.
Overall it depends on my attitude - if a girl acts all flirty and silly, they wont get any respect. Respect the group of people you are gaming with and there should be no issues. If there are issues, please dear lord dont run to the first admin you see! Try to sort it out via pm or email or even skype (I have done that once). The thing to remember is we are all part of one big community of gamers, whether we all play the same thing or not.
Besides in 99% of the games there are ways of ignoring the idiots :P
