I must be the only person in the world that doesn't know the use of a Pi

Isn't it just a full PC (motherboard/cpu/gpu/ram) in a cigarette sized box?

(not being rude, or trolling. but i am really curious as to the appeal of this. market it to me.)

Yes and it can run on 4x AA batteries... so imagine the stuff you can do!

Placed my order this morning. Standard shipping and just the board was R361. (It was R12 cheaper yesterday)

It's basically like a high powered smartphone, without all the phone bits, for R350. To be more technical it's an ARM based SoC (System on a Chip).

    I just found this: http://www.makeymakey.com/
It can use anything as a controller, so this will make some interesting uses for the Raspberry.

Wasn't it initially sold provided that you had pre-ordered or registered on their mailing lists which would allow you to receive notifications of the first batch supplied? I was under the impression that if you placed your name on the list you'd be able to purchase the Raspberry as soon as stock arrives, on a first come first serve basis. How does one obtain these 'invites'?
