Just got another offer... HD5970 for R3000. That sound worth it, or pass? For fiancee's gaming comp.

H U G E rip-off dude!!! Massive in fact. That card is what, 3 to 4 years old now? I would offer him R800 and not a cent more.

For R2800 you can get yourself a 7850.

Its a crappy price but a damn nice card.
I wouldn't pay more than R2200, if there is warranty remaining ect.
The 5970 is a dual gpu card, so it needs a minimum 700w decent quality psu and a massive case as they are huge and can get hot.

I had one, a Sapphire 5970 4GB Toxic Edition and it was an epic card, still is.
The main problem is the the heat and the power draw.

    If its a normal 5970 2GB I wouldn't pay more than R1700.

Well I only have a 570w psu and 7i Core, if that matters. Small case and 3 inner fans.

Cheers for the heads up about the price.

For R2800 you can get yourself a 7850.
Hmm but still it is better than the 7850 according to this

Best to ask Joker, he knows more about that card. I wouldn't pay R3k personally. I sold my 5850 for R1200 about 8 months ago. So yeah I dunno.

IMO its not a good deal.the card is 2 generations old,has much higher power consumption, loads of heat, and probably has no warranty anymore. whereas the 7850 will have full warranty.can easily be overclocked to around 7950 base speeds.here is the thread that helped me make up my mind between a 6970 vs 7850

and in regards to that link.that 5970 is a 2gb card(1gb per core) and im pretty sure most 5970's were 4gb(2gb per core),and the 7850 is a 2gb card. This needs to be clarified since new games like BF3 and Max Payne can easily use more than 1gb of VRAM when you enable higher graphics.and at higher resolutions such as 1080P or multi screen displays, the VRAM becomes even more important.

with your power supply i definitely would rather take the 7850 and your cooling is sub-standard so the heat and power are very important factors

    Hope this helps
