Default Windows 8: How to Bypass Metro and Boot Directly to the Desktop Interface

I've been running the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for a few months and although I'm okay with Metro replacing the Start Menu, I hate seeing the new interface by default every time I reboot. When Windows 7 starts, you hit a login screen (assuming it's enabled) and then you're brought straight to the desktop.

When Windows 8 starts, it displays a lock screen that you have to move out of the way before entering your credentials, and then you have to dismiss the Metro interface before accessing the desktop. Like I said, I'm cool with Metro, but I have no desire to see a full-screen Start Menu when I log into my PC.

Hopefully the retail version of Windows 8 will make it a little easier to force Metro into the background, but it's entirely possible to do this on the prerelease builds if you have five minutes to spare. Likewise, it's easy to disable the lock screen and have Windows automatically log you in for hassle-free reboots.
Continues on the link..worth the read, if you can't stand the metro interface.

I'm with you on this mate, I don't think Win 8 is gonna be worth my while just yet. I much prefer the structure of Win 7 currently, and I also hate how they have taken away so many features that would allow a person to sift through stuff easily but customized searches etc... seem to be a thing of the past now.

If you start typing on the main Win 8 screen then it filters just like it would have if you used the start menu in Win 7. I think people just don't know how to use it properly yet.

I'll be upgrading as soon as Win 8 is available. It's a joy to use.

    Haha very true.

Also I would like to see people try it for a month before they diss it. People are so close minded that they dislike things just because it's new or because it's different. Time and again something new appears and people complain as hell and then a year later everyone uses it in any case.

I believe that one should be curious. That one should embrace new technologies and that you should at least try that which you don't understand. A lot of thought has gone into Metro. After using it for a while it really is great to work with and it's hard to go back to Windows 7. It's like going back from Windows 7 to XP.

It's like all those people who are still on XP because they are comfortable with it and they are too afraid to move to a new OS. I feel sad for them because they are missing out on such a better experience.

Before complaining about Windows 8, try it. For at least a month. Embrace the new look and get to learn how to use it just as well as you know Windows 7. Then if you don't like, diss it all you want.

Until then, stop being so close minded.

To all the haters out there. Thank you thank you.

I have used Windows 8 and it is decent except for the metro interface which doesn't feel right, its crap.
A pc is not a Tablet or a smart phone. I actually expect them to use a version of windows 8 on the new Xbox console...Or at least the interface.
