Too early for the operators to comment on that. The spectrum issue is a rather large one at this point. Hopefully the DoC and ICASA will pull finger one day...

But, am I correct in saying that latency issues with wireless often has more to do with interference than anything else? So even though it looks better on paper, it might work fine for some people and be pretty useless for gaming for others?

There are of course many factors that go in to latency issues on a wireless network. In fact, once you've hit the cell tower, in most cases you're likely running on a terrestrial network (fibre backhaul), so from that point your latency isn't wireless related.
Getting the signal from your location to the cell tower can be affected by load on the cell, and interference. One of the advantages of LTE is that it utilises a spectrum which propagates well over greater distances, and can better penetrate through structures such as trees and buildings.
It actually works in a similar range to that of current analogue TV broadcasts, which the operators are hoping will get re-allocated following the migration to digital-terrestrial TV broadcasting.
No thanks, ADSL2+ will probably be cheaper than this LTE, that will cost R300 for 1GB of data.
Vodacom and MTN do not want to reduce pricing, they think paying R5000 for 1GB of roaming data is a huge saving! They also think R49 for 100MB of data is super affordable.
Goodness our networks have got it all wrong! Except for 8ta of course...

Not true.
When my net went down earlier this year I ended up getting a 8ta 10GB contract as it was taking the bastards months to fix my line issue. Still running it up to this day, download and upload speeds are much faster and a lot more stable on 8ta than they are on Vodacom's pathetic 3G, I can't really comment on MTN or CellC because I don't use them.
10Gb for R200 is fucking awesome, best deal on net and data in SA.
Also I use it to play BF3 and MW3 and I recently got my hands on a Dota 2 key, Jam that as well, no issues whatsoever.
There have been some times that I couldn't connect for like 30min, but it was always sorted that same day, unlike vodacom which takes their sweet time to fix any issues, believe me I know I have dealt with vodacom for 10 years now.
At the moment 8TA is the best value for money Internet solution in SA by miles.
