Cool Hooking your PS3 up to any LCD monitor - A dummy guide

After recieving a number of "yes you can" "No you can't" replies whilst on my quest to hook up my PS3 to my LCD monitor, I went forth to investigate and can confirm it can be done and very easily at that.

It is pretty darn-gawd simple, all you need to do is buy a HDMI to DVI cable, I found one at a gaming shop in Jhb which had them for R190 which is very reasonable.

You then need to sort our your sound. If you are wanting to use headphones you will need a 2 female RCA in to 1 female headphone jack. Like so.

If you plan on using a sound system you can either plug the RCA's from your PS3 directly into the system if it supports this, or you will need the following converter which will convert the 2 RCA's from the PS3 into female jacks where you can plug in normal speaker jacks.

    And thats it!

The converter in the bottom pic came bundled with my Logitech speakers, it was just lying in my cupboard until I got my PS3 . So the only thing I needed to buy was the HDMI to DVI cable which I got for R100.

Got this one http://www.hdcabling.co.za/18-meter-...ctors-p-9.html, and it works great.

That bottom converter is actually very difficult to find in South Africa if you lose the ones that come with the Logitech speakers. I lost mine and I looked around for 2 weeks for a replacement but couldn't find it locally. I eventually just gave up and had it imported.

I'm assuming that this will work on any console with a HDMI output?

Yip, haven't tested it on my Xbox as I am running the VGA cable, but I don't see why it wouldn't work exactly like the PS3 setup.

Most screens don't have audio inputs, so you will have to use the PS3 component cable to get sound.

Either get a RCA to female headphone jack converter or get a RCA to 3 headphone jack converter. See the pics above.
