Perhaps wary of the emergent resolution scandal around next-gen consoles and gaming, Ubisoft has announced they will patch in 1080p support for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag on PS4.
The game originally shipped running at 900p, but the next title update will implement native 1080p. The patch is to be available “shortly after release”. Ubisoft explained in a blog post:
Finishing the [PS4] game at 900p gave the development team the extra room in terms of the GPU and CPU usage to ensure the framerate never dips below 30 frames per second. The team then used the time between the ship date and the release to focus on a title update that could deliver native 1080p resolution on the PS4.
Ubisoft will also implement patch in a new anti-aliasing technique with the update, which will also carry over to the Xbox One version. The native resolution of the game has not been confirmed on Xbox One.
