Sony says Vita is a developer's dream

Read: not a "pain in the ass"

July 23, 2011

Developers’ woes of making games for the PS3 aren’t exactly a state secret. Recently we saw Vigil Games’ Marvin Donald describe working with the PS3 as “a pain in the ass.” Kaz Hirai also famously stated in 2009, in an instant quotable that would make Bobby Kotick blush, that they intended it to be that way (or else developers just wouldn’t try hard enough).

It would now seem however that Sony has decided to take pity on struggling game makers, stating that the Playstation Vita will be their most “developer friendly” console to date.

At the recent Develop conference in the U.K., senior engineer Neil Brown said, “We’ve never had tools at such an advanced state before the launch of a new platform. It’s our most developer friendly console, and by quite some margin.”

This should come as good news to those involved in the industry, and will hopefully set the standard for future consoles from the company.

Brown also had a little to say about the technical side of the Vita, revealing that it will be running a Quad Core 4 Arm Cortex A9 CPU and a SGX543MP4 GPU.
