Activision funds live-action Call of Duty fan-made film

Awww, isn’t that nice?

September 5, 2011

Remember Find Makarov, the live-action fan-made film that turned up on the internet a few months back, prompting an inevitable frenzy of speculation that a Modern Warfare 3 reveal was imminent? The one that Activision didn’t seem to want anything much to do with at the time?

Apparently they changed their collective mind about it all, and threw cash at the filmmakers to produce a sequel, presumably as a part of the marketing for Modern Warfare 3.

“When we saw saw it, we had two reactions,” said Activision’s CEO Eric Hirshberg. “The first one was ‘That’s freakin’ awesome.’ And the second one was ‘Who the hell made this?’”

Well, that’s a nice change from cease-and-desist orders, isn’t it?

Activision announced the news during the Call of Duty XP event over the weekend, and the video, Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish, is now hosted on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel.
