Tomb Raider movie reboot “is a character piece”

Also, an origin tale a la Batman Begins

It looks like Lara Croft is set for an all-round reboot across all media.

Not only is she sporting a fresher look in next year’s Tomb Raider game series reboot, but Hollywood seems to be following suit, to bank on bringing Lara back to the big screen in a reboot of her own.

And guess what? It’s also going to be an origin story – just like in the game!

While we don’t know if the movie will have anything to do with the game at all – we do know that producer, Graham King, is trying something new.

“The story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece.” King told Coming Soon, “It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different.”

The next Tomb Raider movie is being penned by Iron Man writers, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and is looking for a release in 2013. No word on who they’re looking at to play Ms. Croft, but we have our own ideas around the office.
