PS Vita sees post-launch sales spike

The newly-launched hand-held is shown some global love

Remember how the PS Vita didn’t sell as well as people expected it to in Japan?

And remember how everyone used that as a basis to spell out doom for the portable console?

Remember how that one Sony guy then came around and told everyone that it wasn’t a reasonable basis for such claims, as the other gaming markets would react differently to the console, and it would sell really well?

Of course you don’t – that’s why we have related articles links.

But that last part ended up being pretty true – Sony’s PlayStation EU boss, Jim Ryan, was quite clear when he said that the PS Vita would sell differently in western markets – and he was right – despite ‘analysts’ and ‘internet commentators’ pre-emptively hammering in the nails of the PS Vita’s coffin, Sony’s hand-held has gone on to sell 1.2 million units world-wide.

Whether this sales trend continues is another story, but for now, the figure should at least put a damper on the nay-sayers.

In terms of games, the PS Vita launch titles have also seen a collective 2 million units sold – through both retail and via the PlayStation Store.
