Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC gets release date

Those petitions DO work

Mass Effect 3 was a critical and commercial success – until people got to the end. Bioware’s third entry in the Mass Effect series is well known for having the worst finale this side of Lost, causing a furious revolt from fans across the internet.

In order to appease the angry masses, Bioware promised an “Extended Cut” DLC, which publisher EA has now announced will be released on the 26th of June for PC and Xbox 360, while Playstation 3 owners will have to wait for July 4th.

The free DLC promises to “expand upon the events at the end of Mass Effect 3 through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes.”

An FAQ on the official site explains, “To experience the Extended Cut, load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus Base and play through to the end of the game.”

“The Extended Cut endings will differ depending on choices made throughout the Mass Effect series, so multiple playthroughs with a variety of different decisions will be required to experience the variety of possibilities offered by the new content.”

This differs from the original ending, which in a suspiciously lazy-looking bit of story-telling, was the same no matter what you did. Hopefully Bioware can get it right this time, now we just need to get a petition to the people behind Lost and get them to do the same.

While you wait, check out the developers talking through the DLC:
