New LEGO MMO announced

If Funcom builds it, they will come.

Experts agree that Lego is pretty much the greatest toy ever, so what could be better than a Lego-based massively multiplayer online game? Nothing. Norwegian developer Funcom understands this, and that’s why they’ve announced they’re making a brand new Lego MMO game.

“Brand new”? Yeah, apparently there was another Lego MMO, NetDevil’s Lego Universe, that shut down its servers in January this year because there weren’t enough players supporting it. It’s like I’ve woken up in some alternate reality where humanity has entirely lost its soul or something. Let’s not make this mistake a second time, people.

According to the press stuff, the game will “focus on maximum accessibility”, whatever that’s supposed to mean. As long as it features spacemen versus knights versus dinosaurs, I’m in. It’ll be like childhood, all over again.

“The market for family-friendly online experiences intended for children and youngsters is brimming with potential,” said Funcom boss Trond Arne Aas. “Being able to work with a world-renowned brand such as the LEGO brand to develop an MMO for this audience is incredibly exciting to us as game developers and for Funcom as a company. This is source material we all know and love and we simply cannot wait to get started working with the LEGO Group on realizing this exciting project.”

Squeeeeeal.
