Dead or Alive 5 offers swimsuit-themed Collector’s Edition

It’s like they’re not even really trying anymore. The fighting game community has come under a lot of fire in recent months, being touted as one of the biggest causes of the sexism problem in the video game industry, particularly due to a high-profile player calling sexism “a part of the culture”.

The Dead or Alive series has certainly embraced that, with the ridiculous Xtreme Beach Volleyball installment a thinly-veiled excuse to make computer-generated boobs jiggle.

Now the franchise has announced a swimsuit-themed Collector’s Edition for Dead or Alive 5, which will allow players to purchase scant wardrobes for the female characters. The Collector’s Edition comes in a metal box and includes a soundtrack CD, an art book, a poster and “Premium Swimsuit Costumes for the full cast of playable female characters in the game”.

With sexism in the video game industry being a hot topic at the moment, we can certainly expect some internet backlash for this move, particularly since back in February the developers promised Dead or Alive 5′s women were going to be more “high class”.
