The mega-popular DayZ zombie ‘pocalypser mod for ARMA 2 is getting its own game, according to an update on the developer’s blog. The game will be developed by ARMA 2 studio Bohemia Interactive, although mod creator Dean “Rocket” Hall is already signed up as project lead to maintain maximum cred.

“This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago,” gushed Hall.

“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”

The launch of the free DayZ mod put the three year-old ARMA 2 on top of Steam’s playlist for seven weeks running, and pushed 300,000 sales of the MMO in its first two months. Nic had a lot of nice things to say about it yesterday.
