Team Fortress 2 Mann vs. Machine co-op mode incoming

Get ready for Judgement Day

So the rumours were (almost) true – Team Fortress 2 is about to get its robot on, but it’s maybe not quite what players were expecting.

Instead of a new team on the roster, a new co-op game mode is being added. That’s a new co-op game mode featuring robots, which experts agree is better than co-op game modes featuring pretty much anything else, except maybe zombie megasharks with laser blasters.

In the absence of zombie megasharks with laser blasters, however, the Mann vs Machine mode puts you and up to five buddies against waves of robots to see what happens. According to the blurb on the official site:

Gray Mann has built an unstoppable automaton army with a single purpose: to destroy all things Mann Co. Luckily for you, the majority of this robot legion is equipped with basic weaponry that could never level an entire building. Unluckily, they also have access to giant bombs, which they’d drag through hell if it meant dropping one in a Mann Co. bombhole. And it’s up to you to stop them. And it’s up to a small cadre of Special Robots to stop you from stopping the regular robots.

And, as usual, it’s probably up to the Pyro to save everybody else. I’m not just saying that because I play the Pyro.

The update drops tomorrow and includes new maps. In the meantime, I’ve calculated that we can watch this trailer approximately 480 times to get ready, with just enough time left over to change pants.
