Crysis 3 will “melt down PCs”

Crytek promises to “make sure that the PC version looks fantastic, plays fantastic”

Start saving your cash, PC gamers – you might want to invest in a fire extinguisher. After a somewhat controversial sequel, Crytek is going to make Crysis 3 another spec ‘sploder, promising that the game will “melt down PCs”.

Back in 2007 when the first game was launched, “Will it run Crysis?” became something of a running-gag in PC gaming, and Crytek boss Cevat Yerli is bringing it back with shoulder pads and neon stonewashed jeans.

“That joke will be resurrected again with Crysis 3, I’m quite sure about that,” Yerli said during a Q&A session at Gamescom. “There are brutal expectations around the PC version of Crysis 3. So this time we promise to melt down PCs.”

There’s no getting around the problems of developing games for both PC and console, though, and Yerli has previously been rather outspoken on the matter of PCs vastly outperforming consoles this late in the current generation. But Yerli has a plan.

“There is unfortunately always in a multi-platform development that kind of compromise that we have to take, but at the same time we are trying not to take it, so we try to make sure that the PC version looks fantastic, plays fantastic,” he added.

“This time we’re saying, ‘Okay, let’s not compromise the PC but let’s try to push the consoles to make the PC version happen.’”

Crysis 3 is out in February 2013, on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
