Crytek’s Ryse “moving forward really well”

But which generation is it being developed for?

Crytek’s other game Ryse (that one people aren’t really talking about, for the Kinect) is apparently still in healthy development – however it’s not becoming a question of whether or not this will be landing on the Xbox 360, or bumped up to the next generation.

Ryse first made a showing at E3 in 2010, when it was still called Kingdoms. It’s moved around in development somewhat since then, being transferred from Crytek’s Budapest studio to its Frankfurt one, with the latest reports alleging that Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games has gotten involved as well.

“The development team shifted, but for different reasons than people assume,” said Crytek’s Cevat Yerli. “People think it’s because it didn’t work out, but actually it was a studio redirection – we wanted Budapest to focus a bit more on mobile and tablet, and they released Fibble, which was quite an excursion for Crytek. And we’ll do more casual stuff but that’s also free-to-play.

“With Ryse, the game is moving forward really well – we just can’t talk about it.”

The possibility of a next generation release has been reported, which would allow Ryse to make use of Kinect 2.0, which if leaked images are to believe looks to make some major improvements upon the original.

When asked if Ryse had switched platforms, Yerli gave a rather unconvincing, “I don’t know.” “We’re still working with Microsoft, so obviously we can’t change platforms. But if you mean within Microsoft – that I can’t comment on.”
