Indie Game: The Movie is a multi-award winning documentary that chronicles the struggles of independent game developers Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes (Super Meat Boy), Phil Fish (Fez), and Jonathan Blow (Braid).

I’ve watched the film myself, and it comes highly recommended for any gamer who has a passing interest in the great and innovative titles that come from individual and small teams of developers, as well as the machinations of the video game industry that bring their creations onto our gaming platforms.

The good news is that there will be a couple of official screenings of the film taking place in South Africa for the first time.

The first has been arranged by Make Games SA, a local indie game development community. It will take place in Cape Town this Thursday (23 August 2012), 20.30 at the Labia Theatre. Further details and RSVP can be found on the Facebook event page for the screening.

The movie will also be screened in Johannesburg as part of the A MAZE. Interact festival, which is running from Tuesday, 28 August until Sunday, 2 September.

A MAZE. Interact provides a six day program with lectures, panels, screenings, arcade, interactive installations, street games, workshops, concerts, performances, and parties. More information can be found here – A MAZE. Interact 2012 gaming, media, and art festival heading to Joburg.
