It’s dangerous to go alone – take this cute puppy. He’s noisy, he’s untrained, and he’ll probably poo in your shoes while a zed claws your eyes out, but he’s yours. And yes, dogs are coming to the popular ARMA 2 zombie survival mod, DayZ.

In a video interview with IGN, DayZ mod creator Dean Hall explains how the post-zombie apocalypse pooches will serve both as buddies and bodyguards, although you’ll have to teach them how do things for you like track down animals and zombies.

“Here boy, drop the pylon. There’s a good boy.”

And then, just when you finally have the best dog ever, some bandit will shoot him across the entire map using a hacked AS50 AWS. Or you’ll accidentally shoot him with a crossbow after switching back from an alt-tab. Oh, the tears.

No word on when the update is coming, but… it’s coming. OH GOD, IT’S COMING RIGHT FOR US! KILL IT WITH THE HATCHET!
