Sony’s new handheld will be available on Monday
Ster Kinekor’s Howard Longstein today revealed that Sony’s PSP Go, which was released internationally on the 1st of October, would be available locally on Monday.
The handheld console exclusively uses downloaded content and does not feature an disk drive. It will retail at a suggested price of R3500 and will be available at all major retailers. Stock numbers are limited however although outlets such as Sony Concept stores and Look and Listen should have units available for some time said Longstein.
Users can set up local accounts at the Playstation Store and purchase credits from Look and Listen and CNA outlets. An average game is typically 50MB in size although larger titles such as Grand Theft Auto would be roughly 250MB, said a Ster Kinekor representative.
Update
It looks like this one slipped through our complex network of fact-checkers. Sony has previously announced that the average size of a PSP Go! game will be around 600MB, and some games such as Gran Tourismo require 937 MB, while God of War: Chains of Olympus is 1.29 GB and Resistance: Retribution is 1.4GB.

The PSP Go features a 16GB hard drive with Micro SD capabilities; in addition it also interfaces with PS3 Consoles and the standard PSP. Data and games can easily be synchronised between all three devices.
When asked if he felt the handheld would prove popular in South Africa Longstein was quick to point out that although South Africa is the second largest Sony Handheld install base in its region, the PSP Go’s local pricing would primarily restrict it to tech enthusiasts and fans of portable gaming.

MyGaming got some hands-on time with the PSP Go!, which is significantly smaller and lighter than current model PSPs. The slide-out control pad marks a change from previous PSP design which features minimal movable parts.
