The SA e-Sport Protea team has returned from a successful showing at the International e-Sport Federation 2012 Championships in South Korea. Upon their return, the four team members were awarded their Protea Colours.

Name of Athlete Event Club
Robert ‘PandaTank’ Botha StarCraft II PolarFluke
Gabriela ‘Gabybear’ Isaacs StarCraft II SAHETI School
Lyrene ‘Legato’ Küne Tekken Tag 2 Tournament Knights Mind Sports Club
Vittorio ‘HotShot’ Puissa Tekken Tag 2 Tournament HS DOJO

Both male members of the South African team qualified in the group stages to go to the next day’s playoffs. This marked the first time ever in the history of South Africa’s involvement with the IeSF that both male members had qualified out of the group stages.

Unfortunately both Botha and Puissa lost their playoff games to be ejected from the championship.

Both Isaacs and Küne performed admirably for the women’s team. Küne finished in fourth place in the Tekken event, and Isaacs finished in second place in the StarCraft II event.

MSSA president Colin Webster extended his thanks to Gigabyte – the official sponsor of the 2012 South African Protea Team.

The SA Protea team is attended the IeSF through Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee.
