Microsoft is allegedly swinging the banhammer after leaked copies of Halo 4 have made their way online. Images of the physical discs as well as Xbox dashboards displaying the title have appeared around the interwebs. If you’re already screaming fake, numerous Xbox Live profiles on the official site have been sighted showing Halo 4 as being currently played.

Gameplay videos were also allegedly posted on Youtube on Thursday night, but many have since been removed for violating policy. Reports also claim that various profiles have been banned for “illegitimate prerelease title play”.

The source of the leak is as yet unknown, but a Microsoft spokesperson reported that they are looking into it.

“We have seen the reports of Halo 4 content being propped on the Web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation.”

Slated for a November 6th release, this leak is over three weeks early, quite a blow to developer 343 Industries. Not that this is the first time this has happened, with Halo 2, 3, and Reach all being leaked before official release.
