Xbox Music SA News

Proving that sometimes you can believe what you read on the internet, Microsoft SA has confirmed that we can expect a local launch of the company’s new music streaming subscription service, Xbox Music. They can’t confirm when it’s actually going to happen, though, or what it’s going to cost.

“I can confirm that South Africa is on the roll out map for Xbox Music, but we currently have no launch date confirmed,” Microsoft SA man Graeme Selvan told us. “We are also hoping to launch with local pricing and we have no local pricing models at this point.”

The Xbox Music service is a rebranding of the now mostly discontinued Zune service, and is scheduled for deployment everywhere else on the planet on 26 October, alongside the Windows 8 release. The service will be supported not only on Xbox 360 consoles, but also Windows PCs, tablets, and smartphones, with expansion to iOS and Android devices later. And then maybe in South Africa sometime in 2020 or so.
