“Inception ripped us off” – Remember Me dev

Developer claims that Remember Me was first to the mind-hacking table

Capcom’s new IP, Remember Me, has received a bit of criticism for its premise being relatively similar to that of Christopher Nolan’s dream-jumping blockbuster, Inception. But Remember Me developer DONTNOD feels it’s the other way around.

“The game’s been in development since 2008… Some people say because the new Total Recall movie is out that we’re ripping it off, or we’re ripping of Inception. We were in development for two years before Inception. They ripped us off”, said Jean-Max Morris, creative director on Remember Me.

While the release of Inception prior to the reveal of Remember Me put the devs in a tight spot to “who-thought-of-it-first”, the developer does say that the film has helped publishers buy into the idea and concept.

“When I saw Inception, I was looking at the screen and seeing my own design documents scrolling before my eyes. It was quite something. But that movie made it so easy to pitch to publishers. Before the movie came out we were being told that it was too complicated and people wouldn’t get it.”
