Free Uncapped ADSL accounts prioritised for gaming

MWEB discusses the success of their uncapped ADSL trial accounts, and the possibility of a 10Mbps uncapped trial

MWEB has been offering free uncapped ADSL trial accounts since August 2012, and says that they have been met with great response from the consumers. Gaming traffic is prioritised on these accounts, so gamers should experience the best latency MWEB has to offer.

Rihana Hoosain, Head of Product at MWEB Connect, explained that “because gaming receives the highest priority on our network, one should see the differences on latency…when using an MWEB ADSL account and connecting through to online gaming services. This is especially true when connecting to one of MWEB’s more than 200 locally hosted gaming servers on the MWEB network.”

“We received a lot of positive feedback from trial customers, both on our network performance and on the fact that the trial had assisted them to make a more informed purchasing decision. Our aim is to get as many potential subscribers as possible to ‘test drive’ the MWEB experience, free and without any obligation,” said Hoosain.

“At this stage, we have had the most demand for 4Mbps trial products. However, if interest in 10Mbps trial services starts to increase, we would certainly look at introducing a 10Mbps trial service.”

Explaining the shaping and traffic prioritisation policy on these test accounts, Hoosain said this is handled in the same way as shaped billable products.

“The trial products are provisioned in the same configuration as our billable products, to ensure that the experience you have on one of our trial products gives you an accurate view of what your service will be like when you sign up with MWEB,” said Hoosain.

“Online gaming traffic is prioritized with our Trial accounts as it is with the rest of our billable products. Downloads from gaming services like Steam are also prioritized, whether using a trial or billable product.”
