Electronic Arts has stepped-in to oppose the United States Defense of Marriage Act, in a continuing show of support for equal rights – something the company has been backing strongly.

The Defense of Marriage Act defines a marriage as between one man and one woman, which results in federal rights, such as joint taxes, unpaid leave for sick spouses and social security, to only be eligible for male/female marriages.

EA has now joined a coalition of businesses which form the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The HRC supports the Respect for Marriage Act, which recognises all legal marriages for the mentioned federal purposes.
