Watch Dogs heads to PS4, new gameplay video
Ubisoft’s impressive Watch Dogs gets a new outing at the PS4 reveal presentation
During the PlayStation 4 announce conference, Ubisoft took to the stage to demo some more footage of their upcoming game Watch Dogs, confirming the title will be hitting the PS4 for its launch.
Watch Dogs is a dark third-person shooter which gives gamers a frightening glimpse of the near future, jumping into the shoes of a protagonist named Aiden Pearce.
In Watch_Dogs, players will experience the realities of living in our fully connected society, where individuals and corporations are at risk of exposure by our ever-increasing reliance on networks and technology.
Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city’s omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.
The video shows protagonist Aiden Pearce using his skills to scan pedestrian’s cellphones for information in order to locate a target. A chase scene ensues, with a dramatic combat take-down. Pearce uses the environment to help catch his target, and then turns the city’s electronic systems against the police as they attempt to capture him.
The sequence is very cinematic and builds on the excitement generated when the game was first shown at E3 2012.
Previously leaked promo material for Watch Dogs suggested that the game will be released in the 2013 holiday season. This lines up with the holiday 2013 PS4 launch date pegged by Sony.
Ubisoft also confirmed that the game will hit current-gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U) and PC.
Development of Watch Dogs is being led by Ubisoft Montreal, with support from Ubisoft’s Bucharest, Paris, Quebec and Reflections studios.
