The medieval fantasy MMORPG series Runescape returns this week with Runescape 3, while the long-awaited return of Shadowrun finally comes creeping out of the shadows.

Runescape 3 – 22 July 2013

Jagex Games Studios is releasing the third iteration in its cult-favourite Runescape series this week for MMORPG fans.

RuneScape takes place in the world of Gielinor, a medieval fantasy realm divided into different kingdoms, regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Gielinor via a number of methods including on foot, magical spells, or charter ships. Each region offers different types of monsters, resources, and quests to challenge players.

The Runescape series is even acknowledged by the  Guinness World Records as being the world’s largest free MMORPG and the most updated game.

Shadowrun Returns – 25 July

The Kickstarter success story of Shadowrun Returns will make a debut this week, and take the cyberpunk tactical role-playing series back to its turned-based roots.

The game is set in Seattle and Berlin, and brings a deep single-player story, character development and turn-based combat back to the PC and portable scene.

It also features a robust editor, where creations can be shared through Steam Workshop.

Adding to the depth of the game, characters and plotlines of Shadowrun Returns will be carried on to Shadowrun Online, which is set approximately 20 years later, but is still seeking a release date.
