AC4 Black Flag PS4 being patched to 1080p

AC4 Black Flag news

Perhaps wary of the emergent resolution scandal around next-gen consoles and gaming, Ubisoft has announced they will patch in 1080p support for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag on PS4.

The game originally shipped running at 900p, but the next title update will implement native 1080p. The patch is to be available “shortly after release”. Ubisoft explained in a blog post:

Finishing the [PS4] game at 900p gave the development team the extra room in terms of the GPU and CPU usage to ensure the framerate never dips below 30 frames per second. The team then used the time between the ship date and the release to focus on a title update that could deliver native 1080p resolution on the PS4.

Ubisoft will also implement patch in a new anti-aliasing technique with the update, which will also carry over to the Xbox One version. The native resolution of the game has not been confirmed on Xbox One.

Graphic fidelity changing with a patch on console, someone correct me but is this the first time such a thing on consoles has happened?
    If so, very interesting.

I suppose as time goes by most games will run natively at 1080p out of the box

This console generation is certainly setting a precedent with this resolution issue. Ghosts is also pulling the same trick. Rightly so, IMO. This is the next-gen of gaming and we demand Full HD visuals, it really shouldn’t be up for debate.

Agreed, with the last generation it was all about 720P and with quite a lot of games, even lower than 720P.

This generation should be 1080P, no less.
