You don’t have to tell us, we know all about how the festive season had its way with your savings account.
Between that French perfume you bought your mom for Christmas, and that leather handbag your girlfriend just had to have, not to mention that pricey beach holiday you shelled out for, it’s fair to say that you’re probably feeling a little less flush than usual right now.
That’s OK though, because there aren’t too many must-have games releasing anytime soon.
That doesn’t mean you have to stop buying games though! On the contrary, now is a great time to catch up on all the great titles you missed last year, and what better way to do that than cash in on the dozens of specials currently available online?
Because we like you guys so much, we have rounded up the ten best digital games specials currently available online. Here are ten games currently selling for murderously cheap online.
Total War: Shogun 2
£7.85 (R97) – Shopto
Worth it? Abso-wait-for-it….lutely. This was one of our favourite releases in 2011, and arguably the best Total War game released to date.
£7.85 (R97) – Shopto
Worth it? You could do a lot worse for R100. Released in August 2011, Tropico 4 received generally positive reviews, and if you like city management titles then this one is for you.
Mount and Blade: Warband
$9.98 (R80) – Greenmangaming
Worth it? Mount and Blade is an open-world medieval simulator unlike anything we have played before. Buy castles, trade in resources, take on quests and get married in this underground classic. The real kicker is the combat system, from which many AAA studios could take tips.
Sid Meier’s Civilization V
R240 – Gamersgate
Worth it? This one is still a little pricey, so we’d probably wait for a better special. However, if you’re looking for a deep and addictive turn-based civilisation management game, then the latest iteration of Side Meier’s iconic franchise is a safe bet.
Aliens vs. Predator
$3.49 (R28) – Getgamesgo
Worth it? The game itself was a little disappointing, but the single player campaign is easily worth the price of a small McDonalds meal.
Cities in Motion
R54 – Gamersgate
Worth it? This was surprisingly one of the more memorable games of 2011 for us. Behind the beautifully rendered world lies a complex and highly challenging traffic management simulator. Easily worth R54.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light
R72 – Gamersgate
Worth it? Arguably our favourite Tomb Raider game since the series’ early days, Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light is a refreshing, challenging and highly enjoyable top-down platformer.
$22.97 (R184) – Greenmangaming
Worth it? Yes. Mafia II is a beautifully rendered, story-driven action-adventure that is well worth the reduced price tag.
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor
£3.85 (R47) – Shopto
Worth it? Company of Heroes is one of modern gaming’s most celebrated strategy franchises, and Tales of Valor is a must-own for any self respecting strategy fan. That’s a yes, then.
Red Faction Armageddon
£6.85 (R84) – Shopto
Worth it? Red Factions: Armageddon was a surprisingly good shooter, with it’s destruct ‘em up action gameplay helping it stand aside from the crowd of modern first-person shooters begging for your money.
