Top 10 most pirated PC games of the now

Piracy

Remember when Remedy Games basically told pirates that if they were going to steal their game, hopefully they would at least enjoy the story?

Well the fiends of the internet apparently took up that challenge, according to the top 10 downloaded PC game torrents from The Pirate Bay and Demonoid and Torlock.

We’re not going to explain to you how torrents work and how to go about making them work – because we’re definitely not going to encourage that kind of thing, despite their legitimate applications. If you already know how they work, we’ll just give you this look, and give you the benefit of the doubt – this time.

=_=

=_=

Looking at the top pirated games provides a bit of insight into what developers are going on about when they talk about piracy being damaging to them and their games.

The Pirate Bay

Probably one of the best known torrent sites – and it has no problem hiding its purpose, either. Unsurprisingly, the most pirated games also happen to be some of the top-rated games as well. Alan Wake is the most recent release on the list, and hit the number 2 spot this month.

  1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  2. Alan Wake
  3. The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim
  4. Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning
  5. Battlefield 3
  6. Need For Speed The Run
  7. The Darkness II
  8. Football Manager 2012
  9. FIFA 12
  10. The Sims 3

 Demonoid

From Demonoid, our spooked-up writer has hit the top-spot as the most pirated game. Surprisingly, Syndicate isn’t even out yet, but early, leaked code – from an Xbox 360 version of the game, no less – has already gained prominence in the torrent community (read: pirates!).

  1. Alan Wake
  2. Amulet of Time – Shadow of la Rochelle
  3. Crusader Kings II
  4. Dark Strokes: Sins Of The Fathers
  5. Dear Esther
  6. Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning
  7. Skyrim
  8. Syndicate
  9. The Darkness II
  10. Thief 2 The Metal Age

Torlock

With Torlock we had a look at most downloaded game to date – and EA’s life simulator took top ‘honours’ – with no Alan Wake in sight. Yet…

  1. The Sims 3
  2. The Sims 3 Generations
  3. GTA San Andreas
  4. Portal 2
  5. Amnesia The Dark Descent
  6. Crysis 2
  7. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
  8. Plants vs Zombies Game Of The Year Edition
  9. Call of Duty Black Ops
  10. Skyrim

The real question here is whether or not Alan Wake would have been pirated as much, had Remedy not been so nonchalant about it.

Okay, perhaps that’s not the real question here, let’s be honest – it would have been pirated no matter what. I hope they’re at least enjoying the story, right?

Looks to me like people are addicted to pirating games that are related to real life. Because you know, real life is not enough… We want to play it in our spare time also, but not pay for it.

The irony of this article is that the images of Cpt Sparrow & Futurama’s Fry are copyrighted material and since there is no reference stating this, the images are effectively pirated.

What makes it worse is that it’s not pirated for personal use, as is the case with most/all of the games listed in the article, but it is effectively pirated for financial gain (advertisements et al).

    Oopsie!

Video games are usually expensive and poor people cannot play them. I don’t mind pirating

  • TeRRa_ByTe

    You can crack it.
There are things where you can use Steam in a way to play it.
    And there are no-Steam cracks.

Those stricken by poverty are more likely not to want to spend what little money they have on luxury goods. Computers are neither nutritious nor appetising. 😉

Some games that I’m not so sure about I pirate then if I like or want to play multiplayer I purchase – in some respects it helps the industry – I know many people who do the same.
