I personally think that it makes more sense at these price points to just go/stick to PC gaming if you can afford it. They’re nice machines, but it’s a lot of money for the average consumer to spend for games. You could buy a pretty decent HD LED TV for that price. How many can afford this for their kids versus the days of PS2 where it was a great and affordable gift?

The console bundle price I could suck up, but the game prices are a bit too steep. PlayStation Plus is a nice service though, maybe it will make the console worth it without having to blow money on the latest games.

I would argue that getting a decent enough PC to play games would cost about the same, consoles will always have that allure of being very convenient to use and I can imagine quite a few people getting the consoles over a PC.

Having said that though I don’t expect the sales here to break any records, maybe when it gets cheaper. I cringe at what the X1 price will be.

  • Alex Rowley

There’s also the F2P games and lending or trading in games that is unique to consoles that most definitely help with the prices.

  • Alex Rowley

Saw the R7799 price first and that that was the confirmed price for the single console, that would have been hectic, also curse the Rand for doing so badly in the market right now.

  • StewartR3

My argument was to say that a decent gaming PC would cost about the same. I do get that consoles are more convenient, sure, but if you’re into gaming at that price point maybe you care more about performance over convenience.

It’s really down to preference. I know guys who would buy a console because they want game without any hassles and if they got the cash then why not? I don’t see them getting it at launch though. Console exclusives are also a big factor and if you want those, getting a console would be for the best anyways as you get the multiplats and the exclusives. unless you are super rich and can afford a console and good PC rig.

  • StewartR3

One thing’s for sure… it’s going to be an expensive generation for gamers who want it all. :( Of which I am one. Darn you, platform exclusives!!! Arrrgg!!

    There’s just too many 😮

not really great pricing on the bundles, it’s like just buying it separately :-). Now hopefully the price of the DS3 will go down as my current one is giving issues.

Second hand for me , 800 is too much for a game.

  • Vorastra

Wait so PS4 game prices are R800. LoL.

  • Lonthor

If you pay RRP for games you need to start using the internet lol. Kalahari has Killzone SF for R649.

  • Beanz777

lol! I think I’ll wait… Unless I win the lotto

  • UltimateNinjaPandaDudeGuy

Agreed! There are only 2 real options. PS4 you must get PS+ and then only play the games coming out on that. PC Steam sales and Humble Bundles etc (Too many to name).

I RARELY buy any games on release just because of the prices. Blizzard games are the only games I throw my money at and even with them I have been second guessing.

I prefer a PC over a console, because it can do everything anyway and more. Personal choice really. I am still getting a Steam Machine instead of a PS4 probably, but I will see how it pans out.

It’s not cheap, but it’s cheaper than the iPhone 5c.

Will wait to check out hardware issues 1st. My biggest concern is overheating in SA’s high temps. Testing revealed temps “not higher” than previous consoles, but that’s tested on ambient temp of 22 degrees only! Let a few early adapters do the local QC for us 1st, LOL! Also, Xbox One!

  • invalidusername

A bit of a ripoff, but they will come down soon I’m sure, around the R650 mark

  • invalidusername

    It’s Julius Malemas fault

  • WolfyZA

I’ll still get it non the less at least they give us the eye toy 2 with it

  • Outer Limits Pta

pfffffffffft, waiting another 2 years. Until there are actually some games out I want to play and the hardware issues have been sorted. Also still need to get a ps3 first since there are tons of games on it I want to play and I only have a PC and 360 at the moment. Also R 6300 for a console…..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Outer Limits Pta

Most of the local RRP’s for new console games are now R 800, for example COD ghost which just released has an rrp of R 800 on both ps3 and 360. Dont expect this to drop anytime soon.

  • invalidusername

It also depends where you buy from. The key is to shop around or buy online, it’s always cheaper. I’m willing to bet AWX and similar places sell PS4 titles for under R700

  • Outer Limits Pta

True you can find it cheaper and Makro ussually sells new releases on special for about R100 less. But even at Like R 700 its still to expensive though. The cheapest way will be to create a US based psn account and get a us based credit card (easy if you use entro pay) You would then end up paying around R 630.

  • Sweis86

Yeah…so its still R 6 000 for the console. And its two years on – you bought one yet?
