Black Ops 2 finally gets a bacon gun

Black Ops 2

Activision has announced that it will introduce a number of micro-transaction options to Black Ops 2 today (Wednesday, 13 March 2013).

These new additions are just for the Xbox 360, with the other platforms presumably getting the update at a later stage.

Players are promised “optional in-game purchases called Micro Items”, according to Activision social media manager Dan Amrich.

“This content contains either personal customizations or nice little luxuries that I’ve seen players request; none of them affect gameplay, but they are small, specific ways to enhance your online experience,” added Amrich.

Amrich does emphasise that all these items are “completely optional”, but everyone will be treated to the Nuketown 2025 map for free, regardless of whether you purchase any micro-transaction items or not.

Check out some of the new additions below:

Personalization Packs
Dress-up for your favourite weapons. Each themed pack contains a unique weapon camo, three targeting reticles (one each for the Reflex, EO Tech, and ACOG sights), and a custom player Calling Card. All that stuff comes as a set for 160 MS Points.

One notable example: the Bacon Personalization Pack (!) wraps your favourite weapon in the most delicious cured meat known to man.

Extra Slots Pack
This one’s for the players who requested even more loadouts and/or are fans of Theater Mode. You can now get 10 Create-a-Class sets and significantly expand your media storage, allowing you to archive 20 more emblems, 32 more films and 40 more screenshots for 160 MS Points.

Flags of the World Calling Card Packs
These packs include national flag-themed Calling Cards from countries around the world. Packs are divided by geographical region and costs 80 MS Points per region pack.

Surprised? It was only a matter of time.

Yep we all knew it was coming.

Those don’t even seem like overly cool features to be adding though. The national flag as my calling card? No thanks haha gosh that’s more of a national embarrassment than anything else. But the bacon camo could be fairly hilarious.

I wonder who’ll be the next on the micro-transaction bandwagon.

Now why would I want to pay for a Bacon gun? I have enough in my fridge,

Its a sustainable business model that’s why so many games have them these days. No publisher with 2 brain cells will give a straight no answer to micro transactions if their game is mostly online based.

Might be somewhat irritating to most of us but casual gamers do enjoy these things so they have their place.

But from the perspective of the guys who have 75000+ kills on MP and they don’t get some sort of gift or award for playing the game that much is a bit daft. Should have given them a duck-tape skin or something unique ish.
