2010 is looking like an epic year for gamers, with heaps of big name AAA releases scheduled to drop between now and Christmas. Despite the PS3 gaining recent ground, the Xbox 360 still has the highest global install base in the HD console market, and its 37 million odd patrons will be spoilt for choice this year.
One of the most long awaited Xbox 360 games ever, this action-thriller is set to finally hit shelves this year. Players take on the role of fiction author Alan Wake as the events of his latest novel begin playing themselves out in his real life. It’s one of the most exciting new forthcoming IPs on the horizon, and it is coming exclusively to Xbox 360 gamers in May.
Call of Duty 7

Born on the PC, the Call of Duty franchise has really made a home for itself on the Xbox 360. With the console being responsible for the majority of its unit sales, recent Call of Duty games have become staple Xbox Live multiplayer favourites. Developer Treyarch is working hard on the series’ next iteration which is rumoured to be set in Vietnam and will launch in November on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Aliens vs. Predators
Relic’s highly anticipated and long overdue follow up to the iconic AVP series is scheduled for release next month.
Based on Dmitri Glukhovsky’s famous novel, Metro 2033 is a FPS with RPG and horror elements that puts players in the ruined underground metro network of Moscow, where the survivors of an apocalypse ravaged earth hide out from hideous mutants that now inhabit the planet. Metro 2033 will be released on Xbox 360 and PC in mid-March.
The sequel to 2K Games’ award winning FPS, Bioshock 2 promises more excellent plot-driven narrative, rich atmosphere and impressive character development when it gets released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 12.
The third game in Lionhead’s classic RPG franchise is set for exclusive release on Xbox 360 in November this year.
Mass Effect 2
Arguably 2010’s first true blockbuster, Mass Effect 2 is due out later this week on PC and Xbox 360. The sci-fi RPG from Bioware promises an epic storyline of intergalactic proportions, as well as improved combat, top notch visuals and open-world space exploration.
Fallout: New Vegas
Very little is known about Fallout: New Vegas other than it is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment; a studio consisting largely of ex Black Isle Studios employees. Black Isle made the original Fallout as well as Fallout 2. For this reason Fallout: New Vegas is considered by many as the true successor to the Fallout franchise.
Max Payne 3
The third iteration of Rockstar Vancouver’s third person shooter franchise is finally due out on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in the final months of the year.
Crack Down 2
Another Xbox 360 exclusive , Crackdown 2 is a sandbox third-person shooter that promises improved character customization over its predecessor.
