Cost of Windows 7

I see that a certain etailer is advertising pre-orders via Amazon of Windows 7 Home Premium for a shade over R2000.

If it does end up retailing for a similar price in South Africa, will you
buy it, keep using your existing OS or jump ship to another OS?

I am thinking of switching to a flavour of Linux and taking my chances with WINE when the time comes.

I'm hoping to get a new PC so hopefully buying a new OS won't be necessary.

Going back to XP after having used W7 almost this whole year would be so sad.

I ran out of XP activations and dislike taking to people on the telephone let alone
trying to convince them that they should give me a new activation code, so I'll be dropping Microsoft for a while.

I had to do that once. Spoke to a really awesome Swedish guy. He just asked me why, I said that I tend to format often, he said, alright, it's been reset and that was that. Totally painless :p

Chances are pretty high that I'll get Win7, but not until next year sometime.

I went out on a limb and bought Vista Retail a while back. (reinstall and activate as many times as i want)
I really hope the pricing for Win7 Retail is good, I'm very keen to get Win7 from everything I've read about it.

i dont really care about win 7 atm cause my os looks good enough as it is ;)

thats windows im running there my man not osx :D:cool:

I know. It's too "dark" to be made by Apple :D

But it looks close enough, and why you would want to go doing something like that is beyond me ;) I tried it once. Lasted a day haha.

If the cost is not exorbitant then mayby I'll upgrade to W7.

From what I read it will be the best Microsoft OS ever.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Will definitely be upgrading to win 7. I upgrade straight away to vista and it was for the most part good but been running win 7 rc 7100 for the last 2 months and its even better. If it retails for R2000 it will be a decent price, vista home premium retail was priced at R2400 when I got it on launch day.
