Heroes And Generals

I've been watching some vids on Heroes And Generals because it looks really nice, but I doubt there are any SA servers. Does anyone know?

Short blurp from the official site.

What type of game is Heroes & Generals?
Heroes & Generals is a Massive Online FPS with a Strategic Multiplayer Campaign, taking place in the European theater of war during WWII. ‘Heroes’ refer to the players engaged in the FPS-part of the game and ‘Generals’ refer to the players managing the resources and commanding Assault Teams (army units) in the Strategy-part of the game.

Can you tell more about the FPS (First Person Shooter) part of the game?
We call this the Action Game; this is where the ‘Heroes’ are doing the fighting on the ground and in the clouds. The Action Game is in all its aspects a full blown First Person Shooter, complete with intense infantry, vehicle and airplane combat in a wide variety of modes and missions. As your customizable character advances in rank, you might join a small squad of elite soldiers operating behind enemy lines, or fall-in with a larger section fighting an epic battle for a strategic bridgehead. We try to create an Arcade Shooter with realistic elements, such as weapons ballistics, advanced vehicle armor models, etc. What makes our game different to most other Shooters is that every single mission fought in the Action Game, will be a part of one grand war reaching all over Europe. In the end, the ‘Heroes’ will be the deciding factor on who will win the war. The ‘Heroes’ will look to their ‘Generals’, to send them the needed reinforcement and supplies that they need, to win those strategic important battles!

Can you tell more about the Strategic Multiplayer Campaign?
The Campaign, as we call it, is the strategic part of Heroes & Generals. In the Campaign ‘Generals’ will control a number of Assault Teams (army units), fighting for either the US or the German faction, and move them around the campaign map in order to conquer cities, airfields, factories and other important strategic points. When two or more hostile Assault Teams attack each other, a mission is created in the mission list, and players from each side can join and play out that mission. The Assault Teams carries an amount of resources, which will be the ones available in the Action game, and all kills in the Action-game will be reflected in the Campaign. The ‘Generals’ can also add reinforcements to an ongoing battle, so your troops on the battlefield will get more resources.

Frankies (He plays it the best, love his humor.)

LevelCap and co playing

Yeah this has been out for quite a while. I used to play it (even before frankie did :p) and there are only UK servers.. I don't think there are enough za people playing this to even consider having ZA server.

From what I heard it is over populated with people who have bought the best weapons etc with real money, sort of pay2win & grindy. Have a look at some of the steam reviews: http://store.steampowered.com/app/227940/

I really wish we could get an awesome WW2 FPS again, like how Battlefield 1942 felt in its day. Closest thing seems to be Rising Storm

I hear Rising Storm is pretty decent actually. What I would really like a reboot of Day of Defeat, that game was teh shiz!

Sup Virtual, ArchieChoke and myself also played it for a bit. But it gets really old, really fast for the following reasons:

1) No local server, so naturally you are dealing with the familiar problems being laggy-ass gameplay and just a generally poor gameplay experience.
2) It's grindy as hell with lots of pay-to-play players shooting you from light-years away with their super-duper-scopes-of headshot-galore.

Other than that, it's good for a laugh or two. If it wasn't free though, I'd not even give it a go.

Thanks for the heads up, Always weary of the "free-to-play". Thats why I would rather outright pay for something than that way...

No probs dude. Yeah, F2P has it's downsides, and pay-to-win is one of them.

There are of course certain free to play models that work, for instance where items purchased are for cosmetic purposes but the core gameplay remains unchanged. But FPS games always have the pay-to-win factor.
