Intel's new processors are ridiculously powerful

No surprise.
/Conspiracy theory tinfoil hat on: They're holding back technology and gradually increasing power, so that they can continuously make money. Now, with AMD's new Ryzen CPU's, they're hand is forced a bit. So now they have to release a more powerful CPU from their archives, to stay relevant in the market. "whistling:

Economy has always slowed down technological advancement...

of course same applies to telkom, now that fibre is springing up everywhere they are suddenly increasing line speeds for everyone, something they could have done 2-3 years ago already

Ridiculously powerful, but also ridiculously expensive.

Guess there is still a market for it though.

Ridiculous power draw. We talking 800W at the wall if it's OC'ed.

Edit

It seems it won't be as popular as Intel thinks it will be. There is still plenty of 7700/6600 and even 5th Gen i5 K-series CPU's which are more than adequate for gaming and work. Specially when over clocked. This added to the fact that if you just bought a 7700k You CPU won't work on the new Z-series boards.

Holy shit that is a lot of power draw for a CPU! Sure, it is only when OC'd, but still.

The position of these i9 chips is an odd one. I would imagine someone looking for these many cores would just get a Xeon chip instead, and then they can also use ECC memory (ECC is disabled on the i9's). It looks like Intel were caught a bit off guard by AMD with the Threadripper.

Very curious to see where this will fit into the current market indeed.
"Core i9-7980XE has been overclocked to 6.1GHz and drew 1,000 watts of power." Goeie donner! Imagine the heat on that thing! WoW
