PC Gaming: Is it in trouble?

PC gaming is not going anywhere. Some of those industry insiders have been proclaiming the doom of pc gaming since I started gaming.

PC gaming might not be king anymore but it still has lots of good games.

Yes we won't see many exlcusives anymore. Reason being quite simple in order to cover expenses of modern games you need the sales from multi platforms.

At the end of the day the pc market and console market are different. PC gamers genereally like customization, we like to tinker with our systems and like the fact that we can setup the system with the hardware we like. This doesn't appeal to the console gamer, he just wants to get home and pop in the disc and play.

No reason why you can't have pc gaming and console gaming.

Personally I never care for these sales data due to the fact that 99% of the time they don't include the digital distributor in those figures. Its well know in europe and the US that pc gamers have moved to digital in large numbers so this skews these figures a lot.

And if done well Multi-platform titles aren't so bad. Dragon Age is a good example.

Whats the difference between something that is declining, and something that is dying?

Sounds like the same thing to me

You could say that decline is a decrease from an over-inflated market price (market share, in this case, but I'll continue with the stock analogy) to a more market related one. Doesn't mean the stock is dying, just that it's adjusting to actual (as opposed to speculative) market conditions.

Nah, PC gaming isn't going away anytime soon. It might be a minority market these days, but the fact is, there are loads of PC hardliners who wouldn't touch a console on (stupid) principle, or people will just can't afford console games, or people who prefer PC gaming for whatever reason. And where there's a market, there's someone cashing in on it.

Besides, some genres (RTS in particular) are simply much, much better suited to mouse and keyboard control. Until consoles broadly adopt those peripherals (and it won't happen in this generation), the PC is going to be king here.

If anything is killing PC gaming, it's piracy (whether in fact, or simply developer/publisher perspective) and dumb DRM policies. And whining. My god, PC gamers can whine.

Because companies totally stop supplying their customers with goods that sell because they whine. Seriously? No.

Man, some of you guys need to catch a clue or something.

is it because u always know more than we do?

No, because it was an obvious joke. :/

As GReeN_ORB so uselessly pointed out, no company is going to stop producing a product because their customers are whining.

But look at you guys whining again. It's kind of funny how you guys keep accusing me of thinking I know everything just because you don't get what I'm saying. That's your problem, not mine.

There's an ignore function on this forum. Please use it. Just make me disappear. I'm so tired of being made the antagonist here, when it's really just a bunch of people determined that everything I post is some sort of very personal insult.

I'm here to chat about gaming and have a bit of fun. If you think I'm here for some other reason, put me on your ignore list and your conspiracies to sleep. Obviously my posts just aren't for you at all. I won't cry about it.

I complained to Tinman only once, when one user was being an asshole and wouldn't drop it.

Also, look at yourself. You're just being a dick now. Bye.

Aw Azi, I wont ignore you, I like watching the fights you get into :D, an sometime your post some good stuff :)

and I am still waiting for your reply.....

Anyway back to topic, PC won't die, and people have given some great reasons why, why not have a poll?

In contrast to the article, I have bought more pc games this year than ever before. Just last week I bought 3 games on Steam. Haha now to just get the time to play these games.

I don't think that pc gaming will die anytime soon, if ever. I think digital distribution is the way that things are going. Also casual gaming on the pc is just getting bigger and bigger, especially when looking at trends on Xfire. These casual game sales and digital distribution channels aren't taken into consideration... in fact are MMO subscriptions?

Yay go PC! Go Gaming! :D

Start releasing quality games ffs. Cater to the PC's strengths and crowd. Leave the flashy graphics, run and gun stuff to the console kids.

Lets see some games with strong story lines, complex gameplay and characters with depth.

I posted a thread on games released in '96. Now that is what we need to see. 2004 was the last great year for PC gaming. Lets hope 2010 is just as good.
